Welcome to a New School Year!

So far... this school year has been a blessing! You have been kind, funny and so polite! Thank you for being such a blessing!  Keep working hard and do your best... the Lord will bless the work of your hands!

I love all the new faces and new things we are doing! This is going to be a great year!

So tell me... what have you loved about this school year so far...?

Aesop was a storyteller from Ancient Greece. He lived between 620-560BC. More than 2500 years have passed and at least one thing remains true... the world still needs more kindness!

I want to challenge each of you this week...

Find a way to encourage someone else with an act of kindness.

Then come back and share two things... How did you show kindness to someone else this week
and how does that act relate to the picture below?

The End is Near...

The end is near... The end of a work-filled school year. The end of a long, cold winter and a dreary, wet spring. The end of stress and strain. The end of winter colds and spring allergies. The end of cabin fever and favorite TV shows (many of which left us with major cliff hangers that will not be resolved until Fall!).

The end is near.

But is there more coming to an end? Friendships? Jobs? Ministries? Anyone moving? New School?

Our time, in each place in our lives, is limited.

What are you doing with the time you've been given...?

And what about eternity? What are your thoughts on that?

Remember, our time is short... what will come next for you?

Everyone has been "worried" about something at one point or another in their lives. But...

What does the Bible say about worrying? What kinds of things do we worry about?

How should we handle things that make us worry?

Thank You...

It is easy to get wrapped up in everything that is not going our way in life.

We complain, we compare, we complain some more!

But, don't each of us have a lot of things to be thankful for?

I want to challenge you to thank at least one person, everyday for one week (that's seven whole days) for something they have done that has blessed you.

At the end of the week... come back and leave a comment about your own experience with thankfulness...

1 Thessalonians 5:18
"  Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus "

Behind Closed Doors...

Things aren't always as they seem...

We see people everyday. We talk with them, interact with them ...but do we really know them? In the last few years I have been shocked and saddened at the number of people who claimed to be Christians, spoke like Christians and even were leaders or taught others about Christianity... but behind closed doors... their lives were anything but Christian.

Eventually, God permits the doors that we close to be opened... and our secret lives are revealed. Sometimes others are hurt by our "secret sins".... other times they are disappointed or let down because we are not who we say we are or who they thought us to be.

Many are fakes, phonies, pretenders... some slip gradually into sin by making wrong choices. Others feel they can lead two lives... that God's grace allows it -He does forgive all we do right? So I can live how I want and God just forgives... ?

If you understand the true character of God, you will know that this is not the way He has mapped out for His children...

So,... who are you behind closed doors?

Prayers & His Presence...

Sometimes I  write prayers to God ... in my Bible or my Journal. As I spent some time today reviewing some of the prayers I have lifted up to Heaven, I noticed a few things. My prayers had all the elements prayers need... Praise for who God is- Thanksgiving for what He has done in my life- Repentance for poor choices and the sins in my life-pleas for the Lord to intercede in my life and the lives of those around me.

One of the areas of "lack" in my prayer life is a time of quiet, stillness... where my goal is to be in His Presence.  Just to recieve the Lord and His leading.

Spend some time in prayer and then return and respond.

How is your prayer life? Are you a talker, listener, both or neither...? Are you willing to spend some with Him each day?

Mary or Martha...

Luke 10: 38-42
"As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.  She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.  But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Are you a Mary or a Martha? How do you know?

His Love...

God's love is so great for His children that He wrote each of us a love letter called the Bible. It contains His wisdom, ways, guidance, encouragement & love.

Spend some time in His Word today... what does His love letter say, personally, to you? How do you know that He loves you?

Living Water...

Water is the cornerstone of all life. Life could not exist without it.

About 60% of the human body is made up of water. People cannot live more than 3 days without it! Imagine a tall glass of cold water... on a hot day! What could be more refreshing?

However, the Bible talks about another type of water...

John 7:37-38

"On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

Is there such a water, one that could provide eternal refreshment? That never runs out? That would quench our thirst forever?

Based on the Scripture above... what do you think?

1 John 3:1 says..." How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him."

Many of us have earthly fathers that love and care for us. Those "dads" are a gift from above. However, others do not have an earthly father that is a "daddy" to them.

As believers... we all can enjoy the love of our Heavenly Father and His great love for us! We only need to reach out to Him and take His hand!

Father's Day can be difficult for those who don't have an earthy father to share it with. Take some time today to pray that those people will be touched by the love of God the Father and that they will seek and know him.

For today's post... share a "dad" story. A time when your earthly or heavenly father did in amazing thing with you or in your life!

God is Love...

This is one of the most well known verses in the Bible... "... God is love." ... and of course He is!

#1... Explain this verse  - prove that God is love.

#2... Where in the Bible is this verse located?

Proverbs 17:22~ says that laughter is good medicine...

How is laughter good for your spiritual and physical health?

What kinds of things make you laugh?

Who are your "funniest" friends?

What has Christ done for you that makes you smile?

Middle Road...

Revelation 3:16

" So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

I have heard many Christians "boast" that they are not on the broad road of the world that Scripture teaches against in Matthew 7...

Matthew 7:13-14

The Narrow and Wide Gates

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

They make claims that they are believers in Christ and know what the Bible teaches about salvation and grace ... it cannot be lost or taken away from a true believer. They begin to live as though they can do whatever they want, whenever they want... claiming God's grace and forgivness will cover all they choose to do...

They have created a middle road. A road on which they can claim to be followers of Christ, but can live however they want to guilt free. They believe it is their choice and so they choose selfishly their own way. Whatever makes them happy...

They are not on the narrow road. Few find it and choose it because it is difficult and requires much sacrafice...

We want our way.

So... what road are you on?

Don't be too quick to answer. Many of you will want to claim the narrow road to impress others, but the only person who matters is God. Look at your life and choices again... when God looks at you -into your mind, heart and life... He knows what road you have really chosen.

Do not respond here - respond to God directly... Declare to Him what road you are on... AND what destination you have chosen for your journey...

Jeremiah 29:11 " For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. "

God has told us He has plans for each of our lives... If you believe God & His Word... you will believe this truth.

However... in a world full voices (media, celebrities, friends etc) telling you what you should be doing with your life, how can you discern which voice is God's and what His will is for you?

Our Culture...

In a culture that takes offense to being told they are sinners... and who want their way without guilt or consequences... how can Christians effectively share Christ's love and the truth of the Bible (especially regarding sin)... without pushing them away from Jesus in the process?

We often forget the power that we have... or don't know how to access it... once we have recieved Christ into our hearts and life.

We have the power of faith, prayer and influence in the lives of others on Christ's behalf. We have the power to walk away from the world's way and into God's arms. We have the power to love, inspite of those who hate. We have the power to shine in a world cloaked in darkness. We have the power to hope when everything around us has crumbled.  We have the power to give when others choose to take.We have the power to stand against anything we face with our heads held high and our hearts filled with the assurance that nothing can stand against us when we have the power of Christ in us

Follow the link below to a song that reminds us of these truths.

How will you use the power of Christ within you?

Who are you... really?

Lost coins, lost sons, lost sheep... fruit trees, fig trees, vineyards... Jesus often taught in parables. He, himself said, that he used them for two reasons.

The first reason... to teach simple truths, using simple stories to a simple people...those who were hardworkers, farmers and shepherds... very different from the self proclaimed religious leaders and wise men of that day.

The second reason... to confuse the very same arrogant religious leaders of that day... men who had declared to the people that they were better equipped to know what God wanted for them because of their position, intelligence and understanding... yet the meanings of the simple parables, Jesus taught, escaped these men.

In the first chapter of James, we as believers, are told that if we lack wisdom ...and we ask with a sincere heart...the Lord will give us the ability to understand His Word and Ways.

Share a parable that you have learned from the Bible. What lesson does that parable teach us?

If you do not know any, look through the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John) and find it and then answer the question above.

Saved or Lost...?

Saved... a born again believer in Jesus Christ...someone who has chosen to follow Christ with their heart and life believing that He is the only way to spend eternity in Heaven... a lifestyle... a choice...

Lost... choosing to follow your own way... denying the existence of a Creator or the need of a Savior... deciding your own fate based on your belief and understanding of the world around you... willing to risk eternity in Hell to be in charge of your life and choices here...a lifestyle...a choice...

What are you? How do you know?

Recently, we've had a lot of storms. I've watched the lightening strike the ground, in the same spot, over and over... I've  heard the thunder rattle my windows... and I've watched the wind blow chairs off of my porch, garbage cans across the street and bend the tree limbs to the point of breaking.

Yet, others fared far worse. There have been 1,333 tornadoes so far this year (2011) in the US. At least 521 peopl have perished in these storms.

A storm is defined as "... a disturbance to the normal condition of the atmosphere..."

So, with that definition in mind... what is a "spiritual storm"?

Desperate for God...

Are you?

If you are... allow your hunger to consume you and dive into Him, now, tomorrow, everyday...

If you're not... are you willing to risk it all to have your own way... even eternity?

Where are you... right now... on God?

Last Time...

When was the last time that this was you? What is holding you back from time in and prayer over God's Word?

If the Lord is leading you, stop right now and read His Word... then spend some time in prayer... What has He revealed to you?

Grace & Mercy

Mercy is... not getting what you deserve

Grace is... getting what you don't deserve

What do you need more... why?

There is a clear relationship between your actions (what you choose to do) and the consequences (what happens because of your choices) of your actions. Knowing the two are closely related... how does this information impact your life? Be honest...

Holy Week..

It is easy now that Easter has passed to forget about the importance of what Christ did on the Cross. But this act of sacrafice & love was not meant for us to remeber only on Easter or special Christian occassions or even once a week on Sunday for an hour at church. We are to think on Christ, His Sacrafice & our Salvation everyday.

Think about the events of Holy Week... as you think through the events from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday... what touches your heart & life the most? Why?

A New Day...

A new day always brings new opportunities. This day has brought you to my blog.

What will you take away from it?
What will you add to it?

Remember your name

What bothers you more when you are in Praise & Worship, a Church Service or a BCA Chapel...

Your hair being out of place or your heart being out of place?

What others think of you or how you think of others?

When you are in God's presence, what does your mind focus on...

How you can get your friend's attention so you can chat or how you can engage God and allow Him to speak to you?

Thinking of your sucesses as what you have accomplished or thanking God for who you have become in Christ?

You decide...

Remember your name

Form vs. Function

Anyone can look like a baseball player. They can get a glove, bat, ball... hold the impressive baseball stance... put on a uniform... sport a fashionable baseball cap... they can even swing a bat. Some might even say they are a baseball player.  BUT, none of those things acutally makes them a baseball player.

Looking the part is not enough.  Saying you are is not enough. You have to actually be a baseball player.

Christian Form:
Anyone can wear a Jesus T-shirt or doodle His name on a notebook... they can go to church or a Christian School... they can learn Bible verses and read their Bible... they can even say they are a Christian. BUT, none of that makes them a Christian.

Christian Function:
Looking the part is not enough. Saying you are is not enough. You have to actually be a Christian.

How do you become a Christian? Are you a Christian? How do you know?

Lookin Up Means Not Lookin Down...

Explain what you have to do as a young believer to keep the world looking up to Jesus and not down on you.

Remember your name...

Stand Out...

As Christians, we are called to be "set apart"... meaning different from the rest of the world. We are to stand our for Jesus!

Use this opportunity to name someone in the Middle School who "stands out" in a positive way. Tell who they are and what unique quality about them makes them "stand out" from the crowd!

A Changing World...

God had intended a perfect, united world. Man's sin changed that. With each passing day more pain enters our world. Many people today are hurting, live in poverty, know what true hunger feels like, have felt loss brought about by many disasters...What can you do to help?

Christ lived as a man, on earth, for 33 years. He was able to get everything right the first time. We, most often times, do not.

If you could have one "do-over", what would it be? Why?

Beginning of 4th Quarter

Macroevolution is the belief that "life" was self-generated (created) from non-living (inorganic) material. The right sequence of chemicals "accidently" combined to create the first cell.

Microevolution is the belief that species have the ability to gradually change over time based on pre-exisiting information within the genetic codes of a species. This is well documented, a regular occurance and  would account for why there are so many "kinds" of animals.

Which type of "evolution" is supported by the Bible? What Scripture supports your answer?
